Boy did this little girl get dirty.
Ice cream cones taste better if you eat them from the side of the cone. We went camping at McArthur-Burney Falls, in Burney ,CA. This year my brother Bryan, Grandma Buttercup, Evelyn, Jason and I rented a cabin for a couple of nights. The cabin we rented is more like a wood tent. It just has a wood floor, four walls, a roof, a set of bunk beds and a locking door. I guess it's beginning to become a tradition as this year marks Jason and my 3rd year to camp there, and our second year to rent a cabin. Evelyn was only eight months old the last time we went and we weren't sure how she would do in the night. She's definately a camper. There's so much dirt, rocks and trees. What kind of girl wouldn't be happy?
It's not exactly the kind of camping Jason's accustomed to but it is really a fun place to go to. There are flushing toilets and showers for me, and the fishing at the base of the falls is good for Jason. He can get up at the crack of dawn and walk to the falls to fish for a couple of hours. Then he comes back, has breakfast and he goes fishing again in the evening until dinner time. Lake Britton is nearby for kayaking, and there are walking trails. The General Store has ice cream cones, and the McCloud River is close enough for a day trip.
On Tuesday, we drove to the Mc Cloud River to enjoy the falls. There are three different falls: upper falls, middle falls, and (you guessed it) lower falls. There is a deep pool at the lower falls which people dive off of the edge into the pool. I must admit it took me a while to muster up the courage to jump. I just don't like walking off of ledges into the air. The desending part is fun but that edge was scary. Jason and Bryan weren't scared at all. They probably jumped off twice before I got over my initial fear. But it was so much fun! A great way to cool off and beat the heat. This year it was so very hot at Burney Falls. It didn't even cool off in the evening. The past two years we've gotten rain while we were there but no rain this year, just heat.
We also made our traditional stop at the Main Street Cafe in Burney. It's a little Ma and Pa type of cafe that serves really good breakfast at really good prices. Jason and I discovered it our first year camping at Burney Falls, when our tent leaked on us and we had to quickly pack up camp. This year it didn't disappoint and was just as good as we remembered it.

Evelyn loved playing in the water, the dirt, and running around. She also enjoyed locking me in the cabin. She would motion for me to come up the stairs to the doorway, then push me in and try to shut the door. I'm still not sure what kind of game she was playing, but she did it over and over again. We also played Scattergories. It was hilarious. Our family is so smart. I think that next year we would like to stay for more than two nights. We had so much fun spending time as a family and enjoying a part of this beautiful world we live in.

Somehow I missed these last few posts! I don't know how that happened. I even have that little thing on my blog that tells me when people update.
ReplyDeleteI am so jealous you went to McCloud River!
Love the swimming lesson posts! I can't believe she dances on the kitchen table! I had to laugh at that even though I know its not very funny to parents at the time. My mom was telling me a while ago that Jason was telling her that Evelyn climbed onto the edge of the couch and then jumped off and it scared him to death. Sounds a bit like Jonas. Liam is the cautious one but Jonas is our little dare devil. :) miss you guys!
that looks so fun!
